Job Description:
8am-5pm Summary:The Cost Accountant is responsible for
overseeing daily accounting operations, ensuring that financial
transactions are recorded accurately and in line with company
policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This
position plays a critical role in developing and maintaining cost
accounting standards, preparing financial reports, and providing
detailed analyses to support management decision-making.Duties and
Responsibilities:
- Cost Accounting Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain cost accounting standards, ensuring
accurate cost classification and reporting.
- Conduct inventory reserve analysis to assess potential
adjustments in inventory valuation.
- Collaborate with the Controller to recommend policy or
procedural improvements.
- Accumulate and allocate overhead costs in accordance with
company guidelines.
- Review depreciation rates, labor, and overhead costs,
suggesting policy changes to improve financial outcomes.
- Estimate costs for new and proposed products, providing
financial insight into pricing and profitability.
- Generate and analyze Purchase Price Variance (PPV) reports to
identify discrepancies and drive cost improvements.
- Establish and update standard costs, ensuring they reflect
current market conditions.
- Maintain and review the general ledger, reconciling balance
sheets to ensure financial accuracy.
- Analyze raw material costs, creating cost-benefit analyses for
potential vendor changes.
- Prepare and present management reports comparing factors that
influence pricing and profitability.
- Assist in month-end financial close, including the preparation
of monthly journal entries.
- Participate in audits and general ledger preparation, ensuring
compliance with internal and external regulations.
- Assist in the coordination and completion of physical
inventories.
- Analytical Responsibilities
- Conduct ongoing process constraint analyses, identifying
potential improvements in production efficiency.
- Report on breakeven points for products, work centers, and
plants to inform management decisions.
- Analyze and report on product margins by division, helping to
identify profit centers and areas for improvement.
- Investigate and report on periodic variances, identifying their
root causes and suggesting corrective actions.
- Analyze capital budgeting requests, assessing their financial
impact and alignment with company goals. Qualifications:
- Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or business-related field from
a 4-year college or university.
- Minimum of 2 years of cost accounting experience, with a solid
understanding of accounting principles and cost systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous
attention to detail.
- Proven ability to work under pressure and meet tight
deadlines.
- Experience working both independently and as part of a
team.
- Excellent report-writing, communication, and IT skills,
particularly with spreadsheets.
- English Language Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial documents,
including financial statements, general ledgers, and journal
entries.
- Capable of writing detailed reports, business correspondence,
and procedure manuals.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to present
financial information effectively.
- Mathematical Skills
- Ability to calculate discounts, interest, commissions,
proportions, and percentages.
- Proficiency in basic algebra, geometry, and statistical methods
for data analysis.
- Capable of plotting data and constructing graphs for detailed
analysis and reporting.
- Reasoning Ability
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to collect
data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret technical instructions and information in
written, mathematical, and graphical form.
- Other Requirements
- Advanced experience with spreadsheet applications, including
data analysis and financial modeling.
- Intermediate or higher experience with Internet search engines
for research and data gathering.
